Arcade Machine

Homemade Arcade Machine

It’s been a few years since I designed and built this arcade machine capable of playing PC games, Abandonware, Future Pinball, PlayStation & PS2 discs and many more

It takes pride of place in our sitting room and many a pleasant evening has been spent playing tournaments of DOS games such as Bomb/Tank Wars and PS2 Streetfighter

There’s an old 16 bit Windows game called YAAC that in order to get working at the beginning, I had to install a full virtual XP to play it (modern pcs don’t tend to like that brief period when games were being made specifically for Windows but DOS was still the Windows core) It turned the tiny (20 MB?) game into a bloated 1000 MB monstrosity. Since then, I found an amazing little bootstrapper program that bridges the gap between the OSes and does away with the need for the virtual machine

Since this photo was taken, I’ve added a rollerball mouse, a coin-insert button, a volume knob and USB ports on the sides underneath the pinball buttons. Still to come is a power port for my arcade guns
