Castle Beds

Two of my kids had to share a relatively small room, so I built a pair of raised beds so that the underneath was usable as both storage and a homework/crafty area.

The parapets at the top of the stairs opened to gain access to the beds. They had cupboard-type hinges to hold them closed. The beds themselves had a steel frame that was bolted to the concrete walls and further supported by the storage unit at the bottom.

With the restricted space (and poor lighting), it was, unfortunately, difficult to get good photos of the beds.

You can just about see the rolling hill motif on the walls, which was fun to do. In the first picture, there’s two blue shuttered windows on the towers next to the stairs, these opened to reveal mirrors with small net spaces for holding self care items.

We ended up moving house before we put the finishing touches on them, such as the planned stone effect on the wooden crenelations. But great memories were made nonetheless.
